Winagamie Golf Course was established in 1962, featuring a nine-hole course known as the Pines. Ten years later, Mary Beth Nienhaus, a passionate educator and golfer, became a partner in the business. Nienhaus took sole ownership in 1993. Under her leadership, Winagamie flourished.
- 1994 – new irrigation system installed
- 2001 – Woodlands and Highlands courses established
- 2009-2010 – Clubhouse remodeled
On December 31, 2013, Nienhaus finalized the gift of Winagamie, Inc. (the parent company of Winagamie Golf Course) to the Appleton Education Foundation.
In a press release, Nienhaus said, “I made this gift to the AEF to give back to the community. I know the AEF board and staff share my vision of creating unique learning opportunities for generations to come.”
Winagamie continues to be a top-notch course under the leadership of the Winagamie staff and board of directors.
Winagamie boasts 27 holes on 200 acres and includes a driving range and putting green. In addition, the TWIGS course is where the next generation learns the game through the Winagamie Junior Golf Program.
To carry on Nienhaus’ wish of creating learning opportunities at Winagamie, the Appleton Area School District and Fox Valley Technical College are involved creating beyond-the-classroom experiences at the course. These allow area students to study all facets of the business from turf maintenance to event management. To learn more about these educational opportunities visit the Education page.
